ELMAN PROJECT I

ELMAN PROJECT I
Elbphilharmonie Hamburg & Media Art Nexus NTU Singapore
International Collaborative Urban Media Exchange
, University Collaboration
26.11 – 11.12.2018 | www.elman.online

Teaching today requires a mix of disciplinary knowledge and expertise to tackle and engage with the many issues at stake. Media Art Nexus from Nanyang Technological University Singapore (MAN NTU) hopes to bridge the gap between formal art education and connect NTU Singapore students with other media art programmes and cultural institutions locally and internationally. Such is its effort to co-curate an international art project together with the renowned Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany—one of the largest and most acoustically advanced concert halls in the world.

Epilogue ELMAN Project, Elbphilharmonie & Media Art Nexus, Collaborative Urban Media Exchange 2018

ELMAN is a creative art exchange between two distant urban media displays – the Elbphilharmonie Media Wall (Elphi) in Hamburg and the Media Art Nexus (MAN) at the NTU. As a part of the ELMAN University Project 2018, the emerging artists from the University of Applied Sciences Europe, Department Art & Design, Film + Motion Design Class, Campus Hamburg and the Nanyang Technological University Singapore, School of Art, Design, and Media have created artworks for both site-specific media platforms for concurrent exhibitions, in Singapore and in Hamburg. The locations cannot be more radically different in both the architecture of the space as well as geographically, culturally, and historically. An attraction for Hamburg residents and visitors from all over the world, the Elbphilharminie concert hall lies on the banks of the Elbe on top of a former harbour warehouse. The large LED media wall (18.5m by 5 meters) is located at the very entrance of the building. Media Art Nexus NTU is 15 meters by 2 meters large led mural located in a busy, transient urban passageway at Nanyang Technological University Singapore.
