“Eternerdy is coined from the idea of “The Eternal Nerd”. It is about that curiosity that affects all aspects of human life and is what drives our inquisitive goals. The project is not about the study of art or of science but is an inquiry into our human creativity and those things that can be only understood through the acquisition and understanding of facts.”

Mark Chav

Before us lies EterNERDY is a short film which shows various dimensions of the human body, from 3D reconstructions of a liver, whole-body MRI to digitized microscopic lymphoid tissue. The film marks the beginning of the collaboration between Media Art Nexus NTU Singapore and Fraunhofer MEVIS: Institute for Digital Medicine Bremen, Germany.

“Our world and social interactions are shaped by technology. To create it, science, engineering, and mathematics are mandatory. These STEM subjects – and nerds – are creating our future! “

Bianka Hofmann

The short movie was shown simultaneously at Ars Electronica’s Festival Deep Space 8k and Media Art Nexus NTU Singapore on September 8 and September 9, 2018 (11:30 am – 12: 00-noon CEDT). Fraunhofer MEVIS scientists Bianka Hofmann and Alexander Köhn talked in a live video call with collaborators Ina Conradi and Mark Chavez from NTU about arts’ contribution to bringing artistry and a sense of awe to remove barriers for getting engaged with severe health topics and also as a transdisciplinary approach of innovation in digital medicine.
