Echoes, Whispers and Memories, by Mark Chavez (director), Ina Conradi (Producer) and Tate Chavez (Score), has been selected for the competition of AI Film Frontiers (AIFF), the international AI film challenge of SIGGRAPH Asia 2026, held in Kuala Lumpur from 1 to 4 December 2026.

AIFF ran a global open call for AI-native filmmaking, with each entry made as two coordinated submissions: the film itself, and a technical report setting out the creative workflow, the technical problems met along the way, and the solutions found. Entries are assessed twice over, once on cinematic quality and creativity, and once on workflow design and technical novelty. Selected films are screened at the festival in Kuala Lumpur, and the technical reports accompanying award-winning entries are published in the SIGGRAPH Asia 2026 Proceedings.

AIFF continues the AI for Creative Visual Content Generation, Editing and Understanding series, previously hosted at CVPR, ICCV, ECCV and SIGGRAPH, and at the Paris ShortFest AI Film Festival and the HKUST AI Film Festival in Hong Kong.

About the film

Echoes, Whispers and Memories* is an experimental animated film that transforms quantum entropy into a poetic meditation on ecological collapse, displacement, and collective remembrance.

Across shifting landscapes of smoke, ash, fractured architectures, and luminous abstractions, the work explores how crises reverberate through bodies, cities, and memory. Echoes return altered. Whispers carry fragile acts of resistance. Memories emerge not as fixed records but as unstable reconstructions continually reshaped by time.

Drawing upon generative animation, computational simulation, and digitally recomposed imagery, the film constructs an evolving visual language where post-industrial ruins, atmospheric turbulence, and traces of Mesoamerican cosmologies dissolve into one another. Rather than illustrating catastrophe directly, it invites viewers into an affective landscape where uncertainty, transformation, and renewal coexist.

Originally conceived for presentation across radically different media environments—including monumental urban façades, immersive architectural projection, and gallery installations—the work continually adapts to the physical and cultural context in which it is encountered. Each presentation becomes another iteration of the same evolving organism, shaped by place, scale, and audience.

*Echoes, Whispers and Memories* proposes cinema as a living ecology of image and sound—one in which entropy is not simply decay, but the generative force through which perception, memory, and collective experience are continually rewritten.
